Client Type: Direct-to-Consumer Fashion Brand
Market: United States, with selected EU stockists
Brand Positioning: Mid-premium natural-fibre essentials with a growing autumn/winter line
Product Category: Heavyweight linen overshirts, structured shirts, and layering pieces
The brand had built its early growth on lighter summer linen, and it wanted to carry that natural-fibre identity into the colder half of the year instead of switching to wool or synthetics. The problem was the fabric itself: the mid-weight linen it had used for spring read too light and too soft for autumn, and it did not hold a silhouette. The buyer needed a heavier, more structured linen, and it needed a manufacturer that could develop the fabric, not only cut and sew it.
Product Types: Double-faced linen overshirt, heavyweight structured shirt, boxy jacket-style layer, heavyweight wide-leg trousers
Target Channels: Brand DTC website plus selected EU stockists
Season: Autumn/Winter capsule
Priority: Fabric weight consistency, clean double-faced finishing, drape-structure balance, and stable sizing for online fit
Because the collection was led by the fabric rather than by a print or a trim, the brief fixed the material first and the styling second. The fabric standard had to hold before any pattern work began.
We treated this as a fabric project before it became a garment project. The weight, weave density and finishing route were developed and approved first, because a heavier linen behaves differently on the cutting table and in the wash than the lighter cloth the brand already knew. The buyer compared fabric fundamentals in our complete guide to linen fabric for fashion brands before the final GSM and weave were locked.
For the double-faced construction, we worked to two clean faces rather than a lined shell, so the inside of every overshirt and jacket-style layer reads as finished as the outside. Sampling ran 10-14 days in two rounds: the first round confirmed the weave, hand feel and drape-structure balance on the heavier base, and the second round checked colour across the programme and dimensional stability after washing.
Bulk production ran 28-35 days. Handling heavier cloth adds real operations to the line, so inline checks covered GSM and hand-feel spot checks, panel distortion, seam behaviour and hardware, followed by final inspection for measurements, workmanship, labels and packing at AQL 2.5.
